Information shared with a psychologist is strictly confidential and is not disclosed to anyone without your written consent. However, confidentiality is not guaranteed in the following situations and the confidential information may be provided to the appropriate source: if there is danger to yourself or others; if there is a concern regarding abuse or neglect of minor children; if a Court or Court official orders or subpoenas my file; or if the College of Alberta Psychologist requests a copy of my file. If you wish to have information shared with a third party (insurance company, employer, medical doctor, partner, etc.) please discuss this with me as needed. If your insurance company requests treatment information in order to authorize payments (should you utilize insurance to assist with fees), this will be discussed openly with you, so you are aware of the information being provided.
